Gemma and I became friends when we were 15 years old. Both choosing different career paths, Gemma studied law and I studied Diagnostic Radiography. What neither of us anticipated at the time was how our differing career paths would eventually align, like our friendship had and offers us the range of skills, knowledge and passion to come together as Practical Safeguarding Solutions.
10 years on from the Care Act receiving Royal Accent both Gemma and I recognise the many challenges facing organisations and practitioners alike. Systems and staff are under immense pressure, a significant lack of finances adding to this and the overall impact of poorer outcomes seem to be felt by those we are supposed to offer the greatest of protection.
With that in mind, Gemma and I wanted to use our knowledge and skill to help support systems, organisations and staff to achieve better outcomes for adults at risk by using Practical Safeguarding Solutions as a vehicle for change. We want to be a supportive critical friend and work collaboratively to improve knowledge, support confidence in application of that knowledge resulting in greater protections for the people who need us the most.
